ofthe top four smartphone phone companies that develop mobile OS also buildhardware(Google(Android); Apple (iOs);Rim(Blackberry).

A review of the smartphone market shows that Google'sAndroid Operating system is the leader in terms of market share. This is largelybecause it is free and as a result mobile hardware manufacturers likeSamsung,HTC and LG are showing a prefrence for it.Also Google's Android hasalso won over a large and growing number of the developer community.Apple'ssmartphone- iPhone and the operating system is the most profitable of any ofthe smarphone brands. In order to gain market share Microsoft signed a deal withNokia as the exclusive provider of the Operating system on Nokia's smartphones. The deal between Microsoft and Nokia is still in its early days and ifsuccesful could help Microsoft increase its market share. However, the challengefor Microsoft is that three of the top four smartphone mobile operating systemscompanies now make hardware.Making hardware gives the smartphone manufacturersome advantages like ensuring a better integrated experience for the customerand then negotiate better deals with mobile carriers/telecommunicationcompanies(This is why Apple was able to make more profit per smartphone soldthan any of the competitors). There is growing feeling that Microsoft will notbe able to dominate the smartphone operating system market like it did with thedesktop operating system market. This is because Microsoft was late in cominginto the smartphone market after Apple blazed the trail. Also a drawback forMicrosoft is that it charges a fee for licencing its mobile operating systemand this is a disincentive for mobile hardware manufacturers like Samsung andHTC who licence Google's Android OS for free. The question is if Microsoftcannot become the leading mobile smartphone OS maker because of lateness to themarket and its licencing system fee could it become the most profitable bybecoming a developer and manufacturer of mobile hardware and software ?

Will Google's Acquisition Of Motorola Mobility Strengten Android?

In the past couple of months as Google's Android operating system became a soar away success the brand has faced several direct and proxy legal battles from a number of technology giants like Apple,Microsoft and Oracle.Oracle appeared to be the first company to fire the salvo alleging that Google's Android mobile phone software used without authorization aspects of the JAVA code .

Since then there has been lawsuits from Microsoft against Android Manufacturers like HT C and consequently have extracted royalty payments from some of these Android manufacturers.Apple has also succeeded in getting court ordered bans against products of Android manufacturers like Samsung especially in the UK.

As a result of the fact that Google had a very patent mobile operating system portfolio they tried to acquire the patents of the defunct Canadian telecommunication company Nortel networks. The bid by Google was upstaged by a combination of Apple,Microsoft and RIM whose bid of $4.5 billion trumped that of Google.Google's next move was to acquire Motorola mobility and consequently all its large portfolio of mobile patents. These acquisition provides a lot of challenges and opportunities for Google.

The challenge is that by owning a mobile hardware company Google could follow the Apple model model and ensure an integration of its hardware and software. If that is the case several Android manufacturers will simply move to other mobile operating system platforms. However,Google could keep the Android platform open and still license it to other manufacturers.

Evidently from a purely business perspective Google's acquisition of Motorola mobility means that it is now in direct competition with other Android mobile phone manufacturers.Consequently these Android manufacturers may decide to license other mobile operating systems.

Google's acquisition of Motorola may lead to a decline in the Android mobile operating system market share but could boost Google's revenue if Mountain View pursues the Apple mobile phone business mobile(an integrated platform)

Microsoft Signs New Android Deal

In the past few weeks Microsoft has signed a patent licencing agreement with Onkyo for Android devices and had earlier signed a similar deal earlierwith military subcontractor General Dynamics. Also other companies like Velocity Micro and HTC had signed similar agreements allowing Microsoft to receive royalties on those Google's Android powered devices. The question then is Microsoft seeking to undermine Google's Android ?

Microsoft has shown that it has a huge capacity for vanquishing the competition. In the 1990's they beat all competition including Apple and IBM in the battle for who would have the dominant operating system on personal computer systems(desktops). Also Microsoft took over leadership of the browser market by dethroning Netscape in the 1990's.

Now because of several patent licences that they hold the company is receiving royalties from makers of devices that run Android operating system(developed) by Google. The fact is that Microsoft Windows 7 mobile operating system came late into the market at a time that Google (Andoid), Apple(iOS) and RIM had captured most of the market share.

In order to regain lost market share Microsoft has launched a battle against the incumbent leaders in the smartphone market by:

1.Asking makers of Android d...evices to pay Royalties to Microsoft for patents it holds.

2.Launching Microsoft Windows 7 mobile OS(Mango) with 500 new features and then signing an agreement with Nokia.

3.Microsoft has instigated anti-trust complaints against Google which may weaken Google.

4.Microsoft launched the search engine Bing in a bid to take market share away from Google and weaken Google.

5.Microsoft recently teamed up with other technology companies like Apple, RIM, ERICSSON to outbid Google for Nortel patents.

6.Also there several lawsuits against Google's Android for patents infingements especially the$2.6 billion suit brought by Oracle against Google and Microsoft has been giving tacit support to these lawsuits by saying that Android is not free.Meaning that those who licence Android are at the risk of lawsuits.

Microsoft has continued to seek ways of dispatching Google and Google is vulnerable because over 90% of the company's revenue comes from search.Could these growing challenges from Microsoft diminish the power of the search giant Google in the long term?

Microsoft Sells 10 Million Kinect Game Contollers

<iframe align="left" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=httpunisyntco-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B003O6EE4U&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="align: left; According to a statement jointly signed by the company’s media specialists Trudy Muller and Simon Pope, they explained: “iPad 2 features an entirely new design that is 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter than the original iPad, while maintaining the same stunning 9.7-inch LED-backlit LCD screen.”

The Apple media specialists added :”iPad 2 features Apple’s new dual-core A5 processor for blazing fast performance and stunning graphics and now includes two cameras, a front-facing VGA camera for Face Time® and Photo Booth®, and a rear-facing camera that captures 720p HD video, bringing the innovative Face Time feature to iPad users for the first time”.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs came out of his medical leave to launch iPad 2, and was outstanding, and was given a rousing reception by every body at the launch venue.

On the impact of the iPad, Muller and Pope noted: “With more than 15 million iPads sold, iPad has defined an entirely new category of mobile devices,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “While others have been scrambling to copy the first generation iPad, we’re launching iPad 2, which moves the bar far ahead of the competition and will likely cause them to go back to the drawing boards yet again.”

The Apple media specialists then explained that :”With the new front and rear cameras, iPad 2 users can now make Face Time calls to millions of iPhone® 4, iPod touch® and Mac® users so they can see family and friends anywhere there is Wi-Fi. Photo Booth lets you apply fun visual effects, including eight photo special effects like Squeeze, Twirl, and Kaleidoscope, to photos captured by either camera”.

Clearly, Apple is facing intense competition from Google whose Android operating system is powering several credible challengers like Motorola Zoom and Samsung Galaxy tablet.Andoid powered devices have now becoming type='text'>Is Facebook A Threat To Google ?

A report in the Huffinghton Post on August 10, 2010 revealed that Facebook CEO Mark Zukerberg had ordered a lockdown of the company in order to strategize and contain the aftermath of the expected launch of a rival social networking site from Google. In what seemed to be a reaction to that development Google CEO Eric Schmidt in an interview he gave to the Wall Street Journal on September 24 2010, dismissed any notions that Facebook was an immediate threat to Mountain View. Mr. Schmidt suggested that the company’s immediate threat was Microsoft Bing and that it was too early to tell how strong a competitor Facebook would be.

Evidently, Eric Schmidt seems to think that Facebook is not an immediate threat to Google but there is some evidence to the contrary. A report in the widely respected technology blog Techcrunch revealed on September 1,2010 that many Google employees are leaving the company and some have gone to Facebook. Some of the most prominent employees to have left the company include Omar Hamoui, the founder of AdMob; Lars Rasmussen, who along with three others developed Google map and wave left to team up with Facebook in November 2010.

The exit of some of Google’s best engineers to Facebook is a threat that may have motivated Mountain View to announce on Friday November 10 2010 a 10% pay increase for all staff while senior Executives received a 30% pay raise.

These recent personnel movements suggests that Facebook is proving to be a formidable internet company that has witnessed astonishing growth. However, there have been several comparisons or suggestions as to how Facebook will become a viable alternative to Google or become more powerful than Google. Evidently, Google just like other internet properties like Myspace and Yahoo are seeking to challenge the dominance of Facebook in the social networking space. Google however has huge resources and continues to make acquisitions at a pace that is designed to dominate any segment they play in.

Google especially sees Facebook as a threat because its huge user base of 500 million could well double in five years using the last five years as a yardstick. Obviously the more users Facebook has it becomes more powerful; takes in more revenue; generates more traffic and takes market share from Google. Technology analysts have noted that when it comes to competition Google takes on all comers. For example, Google outbid Viacom to buy Youtube for $1 billion; Google outbid Apple to buy Admob for $750 million; Google outplayed Microsoft and tied up with Yahoo Japan; Google acquired ITA for $750 million a company that that provides travel information to visitors on the web.

In addition, Google’s acquisition of Android in 2005 has positioned it as a one of the leaders in the smart phone market today. The wide adoption of Android will ensure that Google will likely continue to dominate search on the mobile space. There is no doubt that Google is seeking to become a key player in the social networking space. This is why Google launched Buzz and as Facebook threatens to unseat Google as the most visited website in the world, Google is set to launch a challenge to keep its number one position.

It is clear that by developing a social networking platform based on the idea of integrating various aspects of Google social networking elements into one platform Google is pursuing what Marketing strategists regard as a master brand strategy. A master brand strategy suggests that Google is building most of its other offerings or sub brand names under the master brand name -Google. Evidently, from a Marketing perspective all Google products that are developed and carry the Google brand name benefit from the strong brand equity of the main brand and therefore would likely enjoy a positive Market off-take.

Clearly, Google is seeking to enhance its social networking platform because it seems that Facebook would soon overtake the technology giant as the most powerful website. As a result, Google has renewed interest in building a formidable social networking platform designed to beat back the challenge posed by Facebook. Facebook is also aligned with Microsoft -a company seeking to dethrone Google as the search king on the web.

In addition, Google could be jittery because Facebook contains a huge human database that could provide a search platform that is human driven as opposed to Google's robot centered algorithmic search.

Obviously, the growth of a human driven search platform could reduce the relevance of Google's robot based algorithmic search. In addition, the emergence of iAd advertising and search platform being developed by Apple and the growth in the use of Apps, which Facebook has benefited from, could mean that the browser based search on which Google built its platform may loose relevance and diminish Google's influence as the search king and biggest internet company.

As Facebook’s revenue is set to reach an estimated $1.2 billion dollars and as the company currently controls 17%, display of advertising on the internet, which is higher that Google’s 6%. Facebook’s dominance of display advertising is a good reason for Google to be worried. Also the fact that 96% of Google’s revenue comes from search makes it very vulnerable to serious contenders trying to take away its leadership in search.

On the surface however, Facebook is not really a match for Google. For example of the top ten sites in the world based on Alexa traffic rank three of them are sites owned by Google: Google, Youtube & Blogger. The top ten sites listed in order of their rank are: Google, Facebook, Youtube, Yahoo, Windows Live, Baidu, Wikipedia, Blogger, QQ.com, and Twitter. Also other global Google sites feature prominently in the top twenty.

Furthermore, Google has far more internet properties than Facebook. For example, Google has Gmail, Buzz, Orkut, Google Map, Google Earth, Google Books, Web Search and More. Google has also developed applications like web browser- chrome and netbook operating system and the very successful Android Operating system.

In addition, Google has a Market capitalization of about $156 billion dollars, which is six times higher than Facebook has projected market capitalization or valuation of $25 billion dollars. Interestingly Google’s annual revenue is $25 billion dollars while that of Facebook is approximately $1.2 billion.

Technology analysts believe that Facebook has an uphill task in its bid to unseat Google as the number one web company by revenue but could unseat Google as the most visited site in the world.

This article was written by Henry Aladiume, the CEO/President of Elnegy, a consumer electronics technology company based in Houston, Texas. According to the release :"LG and Microsoft will subsidize a revolving portfolio of hand-picked applications, providing free access to quality applications that take advantage of the unique features and design of Windows 7 Phone ".It will be interesting to see what impact these incentives will have on the adoption rate of Windows 7 phones given its late entry into the market and tough competitive environment.

LG and Microsoft will offer Windows Phone 7 applications across popular categories — including social connectivity, gaming and helpful utilities — ensuring that customers have access to the applications they value most. Ten free applications with a value of more than $30 (U.S.) will be given away every 60 days. LG’s Windows Phone 7 customers can download these applications for free (for a period of 60 days) via LG Application Store, which will be accessible directly from LG Windows Phone 7 models.

Selected Windows Phone application developers will be provided with exclusive marketing opportunities and resources to promote their applications with LG. Developers of selected applications will benefit from promotional support through LG’s marketing presence and Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace. LG will promote the new applications through in-store sales events and on the LG Mobile Global Facebook page (http://on.fb.me/bltMvp), creating a larger market for developers and bringing them closer to their audiences.

“When we pledged early last year to support Microsoft’s smartphone strategy, we knew we were making a decision that had the potential to generate ripples in the ecosystem,” said Chang Ma, vice president of the Mobile Communications (MC) Marketing Strategy Team at LG. “Microsoft’s commitment to the developer community is well known and respected in the industry, and we look forward to seeing this partnership with Microsoft lead to greater things.”

“We built the new Windows Phone Marketplace to create new business opportunities for developers and partners alike,” said Brandon Watson, director for Windows Phone at Microsoft. “This collaboration with LG creates a win-win situation for consumers and developers and will further showcase the variety of quality games and applications available on Windows Phone 7.”

What’s more, LG will also be offering its Windows Phone 7 customers free access to even more applications developed directly by the company. These applications will also be available from the LG Application Store and will span social networking services, such as Type n Walk and Voice SNS, as well as practical tools like Subway AR. LG and Microsoft’s developer program will kick off in November. HP today announced that it has completed the acquisition of ArcSight, a leading security and compliance management company, for $43.50 per share, or an enterprise value of $1.5 billion.Integrating ArcSight’s security portfolio with HP’s IT operations management portfolio will allow organizations to converge millions of events across IT operations and security, providing deeper context than either platform alone. This represents a new security approach that will help businesses understand risk by making visible everything from activity to configuration state, role rights and past history.

By aligning IT assets with business objectives, chief information officers will have a common context and consolidated view of all IT risk and compliance issues for business services and applications. Customers will be able to monitor real-time events and activities, assess the risk and impact to their business operations, and quickly respond to and correct potential threats.

Further details on the ArcSight product integration into the HP Software and Solutions portfolio as HP expands into the security information event management (SIEM) market will be announced at a later date.

Upon the closing of the acquisition, all remaining outstanding shares of ArcSight common stock, other than those held by stockholders who properly perfect appraisal rights under Delaware law, were converted into the right to receive $43.50 per share in cash. As a result of the transaction, ArcSight has become a subsidiary of HP.

About HP

HP creates new possibilities for technology to have a meaningful impact on people, businesses, governments and society. Some technology analysts believe that Google CEO, Eric Schmidt is right by saying that Microsoft is the company's biggest rival. The truth is that Google grew rapidly and other technology companies did not quickly notice its rapid growth until it hit them in the face. With market capitalization of $156 billion, annual revenue of about $25 billion dollars and share price of over $500, Google is indeed a technology giant. The fact suggests that since Google attained success as a search engine and search remains 96% of its revenue stream the company has been looking for growth opportunities.

There is a widely held view that in the process of seeking growth opportunities and diversifying its income stream Google has often stirred itself into trouble. In 2007 Google ran into trouble with another tech giant - eBay which accused Google of trying to lure away some of its top sellers. Mountain View was attempting to lure the top eBay sellers to use its own product -Google checkout -a competitor to PayPal. As a result, eBay pulled its ads from AdWords as a sanction against Google. At that time eBay was one of Google's top advertisers spending $26 million monthly ($312 million annually) on Google AdWords in the U.S. market.

In another front in the battle against Mountain View, VIACOM owners of MTV got entangled in legal battle with Google over alleged copyright infringements on the Google owned website- YouTube which VIACOM had lost in its acquisition bid. The lawsuit against Google, which was seeking $1 billion in damages, was seen as a reprisal move from VIACOM, which was outbid by Google in the quest to acquire YouTube.

Off course, there have been battles with Apple since Google ventured into the phone business with Android OS, Android phones, G1 and Nexus 1 phones. The facts suggest that Google's decision to venture into the phone business partly led to the exit of Eric Schmidt from the Apple board. In addition, Apple filed a trademark infringement suit against HTC the Taiwanese company that makes NEXUS 1 for Google-a proxy war. Furthermore, Apple then let Microsoft's Bing -Google's main rival to become the optional search engine on the Apple iPhone. Also, when Google outbid Apple to acquire Admob Apple shut them out of iAd- the new app based search platform they were developing. Even though Google and Apple are reportedly mending fences, the relationship between the two companies is not as cozy as it was five years ago. Earlier this year Oracle joined the war against Mountain view by filing a lawsuit against Google's Android for infringements of the JAVA code. There is a widely held view that Microsoft and Apple may indirectly benefit from the Oracle lawsuit.

However, the biggest challenge for the search giant is the battle with Microsoft and is going to be one of the toughest Google will ever face. Google started stirring trouble by building operating systems like Chrome for the desktop PC's and offering it for free and seeking to degrade the value and importance of Microsoft's top cash cow- Windows operating system. In addition, Google ventured into web browser development and with Chrome, they seek to dislodge Microsoft Internet explorer as the leading web browser.

In addition, Google DOCS is another venture that is pitting Mountain View in direct competition with Redmond. Microsoft has come roaring back and internally said to be threatening to kill Google. The development of the Bing search engine is Microsoft's strategy for dethroning Google as the number 1 search engine. The fact that 96% of Google's income comes from search has made many industry chieftains like Yahoo CEO, Carol Bartz suggest that the search giant will be in trouble if the does not diversify its revenue stream.

The battle with Microsoft will be the toughest that Google will ever face because Microsoft is a company, which unlike Google has a diversified revenue stream, and is targets and destroys competition. Remember, the browser war of the 90's that led to the demise of Netscape. In addition, Microsoft dominance of the desktop PC's with their Windows operating systems and their emergence as the biggest technology company over the last 15 years shows that the company is formidable. There has been a lot of debate as to whether Google will kill Microsoft or if Microsoft will kill Google. The truth is that in the Google- Microsoft face off Google is more vulnerable.

Google's emergence as the largest search engine has brought it in direct competition with other internet firms, search engines and technology companies especially Microsoft. Microsoft has spent hundreds of millions of dollars building the search engine Bing. Bing has been getting positive reviews and has witnessed growth in market share since it was launched in 2009. Microsoft's Bing partnership with Yahoo is expected to help grow its search market share and reduce the influence of Google search. Coremetrics, based in San Mateo, CA, will expand IBM's business analytics capabilities by enabling organizations to use cloud computing services to develop faster, more targeted marketing campaigns.

Coremetrics' offerings enable organizations across a wide range of industries to develop smarter marketing campaigns. Its software provides real-time intelligence on what customers are saying about products, content and services being offered to them, and enables clients to make fact-based, accurate decisions about marketing expenditures. As a result, marketing teams can gain deeper insight about their customers and present personalized recommendations, promotions and other sales incentives to customers wherever they interact with their brands including online, on mobile devices, through social media networks, kiosks and other more traditional channels.

Coremetrics' offerings are a new addition to IBM's investments in business analytics that will allow IBM to deliver powerful new intelligence tools into client's business processes. Utilizing new Web analytics capabilities, IBM clients will be able to measure the effectiveness of their marketing campaigns and understand the shopping habits, likes and dislikes of their customers.

"With this acquisition, IBM will give clients greater insight about customer behavior and sentiment about products and services, and give true foresight into their future buying patterns," said Craig Hayman, general manager, Industry Solutions for IBM Software Group. "The combination of IBM and Coremetrics will enable our clients to maximize marketing expenditures while also making the browsing, buying, banking or customer service experience more convenient, personal and interactive for their consumers."

Enterprise-class and mid-sized companies in all industries are increasingly trying to deliver more targeted, consistent marketing across all channels to motivate a variety of customer actions. Consequently, chief marketing officers (CMOs) are increasingly responsible for analyzing and predicting customer behavior, stimulating customer interactions and commerce, and developing a comprehensive enterprise marketing platform.

"IBM and Coremetrics can help businesses rapidly gain intelligence into social networks and online media sources through a software as a service (SaaS) delivery model and incorporate this insight into their business processes to create smarter, more effective marketing campaigns," said Joe Davis, CEO, Coremetrics. "Together, we can develop powerful new business analytics solutions, delivering a single source of information about every aspect of your online business — every customer, transaction, product, channel and supplier — to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and drive measurable business results. Further, we deliver on-the-go access to real-time analytics and performance data on all major smart mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and Android."

Since 2006, IBM and Coremetrics have partnered to deliver a leading cross-channel business analytics solution specifically for use with IBM WebSphere Commerce software. Coremetrics for IBM WebSphere Commerce was designed to provide business managers with a clear view of their web sites, and to automatically create targeted marketing campaigns based on visitor behavior directly within the WebSphere Commerce solution.

Today's announcement builds on this shared history and positions IBM to expand its analytics strategy, which includes a range of offerings available throughout IBM's Software Group as well as the IBM Business Analytics and Optimization Consulting organization — a team of 5,000 consultants and a network of analytics solution centers, backed by an overall investment of more than $11 billion in acquisitions in the last five years.

The acquisition builds on a successful collaboration between Coremetrics and IBM around WebSphere Portal products. This is because Facebook has grown phenomenally; has huge potentials and needs to further develop the financial muscle that will enable the company to fully develop its capabilities. Undoubtedly, an IPO will diversify and strengthen the financial base of the company and will lead the company towards a robust future in which it is better able to dominate the competition already angling to undo it. According to Henry Aladiume, CEO of http://www.elnegy.com - he believes that there are evidently many brands like Google that are seeking to challenge the dominance of Facebook in the social networking space. Also with its huge resources Google continues to make acquisitions at pace that is designed to dominate any segment they play in.

Google especially sees Facebook as a threat because its huge user base if well managed could potentially become a platform that provides an alternative kind of search that will pose a threat to Google's dominance. Also, note that when it comes to competition Google takes on all comers. For example, Google outbid Viacom to buy Youtube for $1 billion; Google outbid Apple to buy Admob for $750 million; Google outplayed Microsoft and tied up with Yahoo Japan; Google acquired ITA for $750 million a company that Microsoft uses to provide travel information to visitors on its Bing search engine.

In addition, Google’s acquisition of Android in 2005 has positioned it as a one of the leaders in the smart phone market today. There is no doubt that Google is seeking to become a key player in the social networking space. This is why Google launched Buzz and as Facebook threatens to unseat Google as the most visited website in the world, Google is set to launch a challenge to keep its number one position. Undoubtedly, an IPO for Facebook, which is anchored on a two-tier ownership structure in which the founders retain majority-voting rights, will enhance Facebook's ability to remain a top contender in a highly competitive web platform that has seen the decline of former giants like AOL and Myspace.

This article was written by Mr. Henry Aladiume,President/CEO of Elnegy,a consumer electronics company based in Houston,Texas,USA.You can visit http://www.elnegy.com/ for the top consumer electronics brands like car stereo systems and mobile phones.

Samsung Electronics Announces Increased Revenue In Second Quarter 2010 Results

SEOUL, Korea – July 30, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced revenues of 37.89 trillion Korean won on a consolidated basis for the second quarter ended June 30, 2010, a 17 percent increase year-on-year. For the quarter, the company posted net income of 4.28 trillion won.

Consolidated operating profit for the quarter was a record 5.01 trillion won, an 88 percent increase year-on-year. The figure tops the previous high of 4.41 trillion won in the first quarter of 2010. In its earnings guidance disclosed on July 7, Samsung estimated second-quarter consolidated revenues would reach approximately 37 trillion won with an operating profit of 5 trillion won.

The company’s increased profitability in the second quarter was driven by significant improvements in its components businesses. The Semiconductor Business recorded an operating profit of 2.94 trillion won on sales of 9.53 trillion won, while the LCD Business generated an operating profit of 880 billion won on 7.76 trillion won in sales. Samsung’s set businesses – spanning digital media, IT solutions and telecommunications – also performed well despite increased price competition and uncertain global consumer sentiment.

“In the second quarter, our component businesses performed very strongly, yet it was a more challenging quarter for our set businesses,” said Robert Yi, Vice President and head of Samsung Electronics’ Investor Relations Team. "With intensified competition throughout the digital media and mobile industries going forward, it may become a challenge to maintain current profitability levels. However, we will continue to focus on introducing differentiated products and widening our technology leadership in components to meet these difficult market conditions.”

Strong seasonal demand for core components will drive Samsung’s performance in the third quarter, although increased market supply is also forecast. Samsung forecasts that continued price competition in its set businesses will put downward pressure on profit margins in the third quarter. Samsung also announced that total capital expenditures for the first half of 2010 reached 9.2 trillion won, representing 51 percent of the total of 18.2 trillion won in capex planned for 2010.

About Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies with 2009 consolidated sales of US$116.8 billion. Employing approximately 188,000 people in 185 offices across 65 countries, the company consists of eight independently operated business units: Visual Display, Mobile Communications, Telecommunication Systems, Digital Appliances, IT Solutions, Digital Imaging, Semiconductor and LCD. With an ultra-bright F2.0 ultra-wide-angle 24mm LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens, the LUMIX LX5 minimizes image distortion, resulting in stunning, true-to-life images with outstanding resolution and detail. The 24mm wide angle lens offers extraordinarily large viewing space and now the optical zoom is extended to 3.8x(90mm) making the LX5 even more versatile.

“The Panasonic LUMIX LX-Series cameras have been extremely popular models for us with professional and enthusiast photographers, who understand and value the superb image quality such a compact, affordable digital camera can offer,” said David Briganti, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. “We expect the same enthusiasm, if not more, for the LUMIX LX5, which features improvements to the lens and processing – resulting in even better images.”

The Panasonic LUMIX LX5 is a unique compact digital camera in that it offers superb image quality along with a super-bright lens and increased creative modes. The F2.0 lens is twice as bright as a F2.8 lens, making it easy to produce beautiful photos with a soft-focused background thanks to the shallow depth of field provided by the extra light. In addition to the newly-designed lens, the LUMIX LX5 features an image processing engine that combines technologies resulting in professional-quality photos, especially in low-light situations. Like its predecessor, the LUMIX LX5 features the highly-acclaimed 10.1-megapixel CCD, but it has an expanded dynamic range by increasing the sensitivity and the saturation.

The newly developed Venus Engine FHD image processor enables higher-speed, higher-performance while compiling the Intelligent Resolution technology. The triple CPUs in this imaging engine dramatically speeds up processing while achieving exceptional noise reduction performance. With its high-sensitivity CCD and the brightness of the lens, minimum illumination of the LUMIX LX5 is as low as 3 lux while shooting video.

In addition to capturing high-quality still photos, the LUMIX LX5 can record HD videos in AVCHD Lite, a format that allows almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format. Creative video shooting modes include Creative Movie mode, where users can set shutter speed and aperture manually to make even more impressive movies. My Color mode and Film mode are available for more extended expression not only in photography but also in videography. The LUMIX LX5 also features Dolby Digital Creator to record high quality audio and the 3.8x optical zoom is available while shooting video.

The LUMIX LX5 has also been redesigned externally – with a thicker grip making it easier to hold and a newly-incorporated turn-and-push jog dial achieves various selection and setting more quickly. The LUMIX LX5 also features a hot shoe, which allows for the attachment of a wide-variety of accessories, such as an optional Live View Finder which helps shooting under strong daylight with high visibility or an external flash. The 1:1 square format setting is added in the aspect ratio option which can be selected with the switch at the side of the lens barrel.

About Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company

Based in Secaucus, N.J., Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company (PCEC), is a Division of Panasonic Corporation of North America, the principal North American subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation (NYSE: PC) and the hub of Panasonic's U.S. marketing, sales, service and R&D operations. The high-performance NAND memory is expected to be of immediate benefit to a host of NAND-based mobile and consumer electronics applications, especially where there is consumer demand for an extra stretch in performance. Both companies will support a standard industry specification to enable broad-scale acceptance of this new high-speed technology.

“Our introduction of high-speed 30 nanometer class NAND late last year served as an initial pathway for stimulating acceptance of the new high-performance toggle DDR technology,” said Dong-Soo Jun, executive vice president, memory marketing, Samsung Electronics. “Now, continual upgrades in high-speed performance will create new applications and broader market opportunities for NAND flash memory. The rapid adoption of fourth generation (4G) smartphones, tablet PCs and solid state drives is expected to drive demand for a broader range of high-performance NAND solutions.”

“Toggle DDR provides a faster interface than conventional NAND using an asynchronous design, delivering the benefits of high-speed data transfer to a wider market, such as for solid state drive (SSD) applications including enterprise storage, mobile phones, multimedia terminals and consumer products,” said Masaki Momodomi, Technical Executive, Memory product, Toshiba Corporation. “And we will continue to make the best effort possible to create standard, high-speed NAND Flash interface solutions with NAND vendors and customers, which will accelerate the revolution in storage applications.”

The current toggle DDR 1.0 specification applies a DDR interface to conventional single data rate (SDR) NAND architecture. The resulting NAND chip has a 133Mbps interface. Samsung and Toshiba will focus on assuring a 400Mbps interface for the toggle DDR 2.0 specification, which provides a three-fold increase over toggle DDR 1.0, and a ten-fold increase over 40Mbps SDR NAND in widespread use today.
Both companies support industry-wide adoption of the high-speed specification, which would facilitate faster acceptance of toggle DDR memory with hardware engineers and application designers. Last month, each company started participating in standardization efforts for the new technology through the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association.

About Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies with 2009 consolidated sales of US$116.8 billion. They argued that contrary to Steve Jobs claims Google had been working on Android long before the iPhone was launched in 2007.

According to Mr. Page :"We had been working on Android for a very long time, with the notion of producing phones that are internet enabled and have good browsers and all that because that did not exist in the market place. I think that the characterization of us as entering after the iPhone was introduced is not really reasonable." Google co-founder Larry Page opined that that Mr. Jobs claim that Google went into the phone business in order to challenge Apple iPhone was false.

However, a review of smartphone history will show that Google acquired Android in 2005 and began making phone prototypes soon afterwards. Informed sources say the model of the Android phones that Mr. Jobs saw at that time looked more like the Blackberry. This suggests that Google’s initial idea may not have been to make phones that look like the iPhone.

Now the question most industry watchers are asking is if Google had been working on an Android powered phone why they did wait until September 2008 a year after the iPhone was launched to introduce the G1 phone? In addition, the facts suggest that it was because of tensions over Google’s entry into the phone business that may contributed to the exit of Mr. Eric Schmidt from the Apple board. Analysts believe that Google may have been working on an android powered phone before the iPhone was introduced but the iPhone seemed to have given them better insights as to how to perfect their own smartphone. This is especially true given the resemblance of the Nexus one to the iPhone.

A further confirmation of Google’s motive for launching the Android phones could be gleaned from comments they made at the Google I/O conference held last May. At the event, Google explained that they introduced Android to consumers so that Apple would not acquire enormous influence that could become draconian.

In addition, the facts seem to suggest that Google went into the phone business following the realization that future of computing would be in portable devices like phones and tablet computers. As a result, they went into the phone business with the goal of dominating web search on that platform just like they had done on the desktop. This notion is supported by Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google in published comments he made in an interview with the UK Guardian newspaper on June 25th 2010.In that interview Mr. Schmidt suggested that he wants Android to be the Windows of Mobile.

Also in that same interview Mr. Schmidt made critical comments about Microsoft Windows and said: “You have to ask how on earth Windows Phone - which will have a paid-for licence - is ever going to attract any handset makers, but it must be loudest for developers considering whether the shrinking, forwards-incompatible pool of Windows Mobile phones is really worth bothering with”.

In contrast, Apple appears to have gone into the phone business as a re-positioning strategy and with a goal to make huge revenue from the sale of the smart phone hardware itself. Also with the advent of the smart phones, Apple realized that there was a huge potential in the area of mobile Advertising. This was why they sought to acquire Admob. While Apple was negotiating to buy Admob which is a mobile Advertising company Google quickly stepped in and acquired Admob. As a result Apple went ahead to acquire Quatro wireless which is Admob’s biggest competitor. In reaction to Google’s acquisition of Admob Apple has re-written the rules of its mobile Advertising platform called the iAd therefore shutting out Admob, which had been acquired by Google.

As the smart phone war rages on Bloomberg, news reports that Apple has sold more than 50 million iPhones since its introduction. According to Apple CEO, Steve Jobs the latest version, iPhone 4 has sold more than 3 million units since its June 24, 2010 debut. Analysts believe iPhones account for nearly 35 percent of Apples $42.9 billion revenue. Also, the iPhone has over 200,000 applications with over 5 billion downloads till date.

The rapid growth of applications on Apple’s ecosystem could be traced to the initial incentive the company offered to developers. For example at the beginning, in order to encourage Applications that will run on the iPhone, Apple made an indirect investment by virtue of a $100 million venture-capital fund set up by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Today Apple has paid over one billion dollars to developers since inception.

Apple’s success has spurred other players in the smartphone market like HP, LG, RIM, Google, Palm, Nokia, and Microsoft to develop mobile stores where customers with mobile platforms can pay and download applications.

Just like Apple, Google has been, achieving success with its Android powered smartphones as sales have continued to rise dramatically. A confirmation of Android’s growth could be gleaned from the positive comments made by Google’s Senior VP of Product Management, Jonathan Rosenberg in July 2010.According to Mr. Rosenberg there are 160,000 Android-based devices being activated daily. He stated that Android search grew by 300 percent in the first half of 2010, with strong growth expected to continue in the second half.

Mr. Rosenberg added that overall revenue jumped by 24 percent year-on-year and profit increased by 19 percent, as well. Informed reports show that as at May 2010, there were 50,000 Android Apps but today they are over 70,000 and by the end of the year they should reach 100,000. In addition, Google has tried to encourage developers of applications for the Android operating system through a contest. Also according to data made available by Andro Lib, Android users have downloaded more than one billion application till date.

Interestingly, another measure of the success of Google Android phone could be seen from positive figures posted by HTC the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer in the second quarter of 2010. The company in July 2010 announced that its net income rose by 33 percent for the second quarter, and total revenue was 58 percent more than last years figures. According to the Wall Street Journal for the second quarter of 2010, HTC made a profit of $268 million.

The rise in the profit of HTC is a reflection of the success of Google because analysts believe that it is Android phones that are driving the company’s growth. The wide acceptance HTC’s Google Android powered phones like Evo 4G, the Droid Incredible, the Google Nexus One, and T-Mobile-My Touch 3 are helping to position HTC as a leading smartphone manufacturer.

A pointer to the rapid growth of Google’s Android could be discerned from the fact that Comscore reported on July 8 2010 that Google's Android platform grew by 44 percent from February to May. According Comscore in the three three-month time frame from December to February, Android had a mean market share of about 9 percent of smartphone’s in the United States. However, in the following three-month time frame, from March to May, Android market share grew to about 13 percent.

Remarkably inspite of the increase in Android’s market share Comscore report showed that as at July, 2010 that RIM was number one with 41.7 percent share of U.S. smartphone subscribers, followed by Apple with 24.4 percent share. Microsoft was 3rd with a 13.2 percent share;Google’s Android was 4th with 13 percent and Palm was 5th with 4.8 percent market share. Market analysts say a review of the totality of the Market will tend to suggest that Android is growing at a rate that will see it outpace all its competitors.

The Google –Apple face off in the smart phone market is turning out to be like Apple -Microsoft war of the 80’s and 90’s.In the Apple-Microsoft war of the 90’s Microsoft gained competitive advantage over Apple because while Microsoft was forming partnerships with PC vendors, Apple kept its operating system closed for use in only its own computer systems. In that kind of arrangement Microsoft Windows soared in market share while Apple stagnated.

In the present case Google’s Android platform is growing rapidly because it is free so many handset manufacturers are showing a preference for it.Also and is available on multiple-carriers like AT&T, Sprint,Verizon and T-Mobile.However,the Apple iphone Os runs only on a single device -the Apple iPhone and on one carrier ATT.Experts believe if this trend continues it that may lead to slow growth for the iPhone in future.

Industry sources say,it may only be fair to make comparisons between Apple iPhone and other smartphones running on Android on an individual basis to determine how well each one stacks up against the iPhone.Experts believe that collectively the smartphones running on Android may eventually have more market share than the Apple iPhone smartphone which is a single device, but individually none of the Android phones would likely outsell the iPhone which is regarded as the fastest selling smart phone in history.

A pointer to what the future of the smartphone market will look like is contained in recent report published by IDC, a Market intelligence company. According to IDC’s analysis by 2013 Symbian will be number one mobile OS worldwide, while Android will be the No. 2. IDC predicts that Android may likely achieve the fastest growth of any mobile operating system ever.

This article was written by Henry Aladiume, the CEO/President of Elnegy, a consumer electronics company based in Houston, Texas. Make no mistake: Google wants to kill the iphone. We wont let them” .In March 2010, Apple inc launched a proxy war by filling a patents infringement suit against HTC the Taiwanese company that made the Nexus phone one for Google. Bloomberg news reports that Apple has sold more than 50 million iPhones since its introduction. The latest version, iPhone 4, sold more than 1.7 million units in the first three days after its June 24 debut. In contrast Google has sold an estimated 135,000 Nexus One phones in the 74 days after it went on sale as compared to Apple which sold 1 million iPhones in the first 74 days of its existence in 2007.
The Nexus one phone has not matched Iphone sales at all. Also with the expected introduction of the Iphone on the Verizon network USA Today, newspaper reports that Apple Sales of the Iphone in the US would reach at least 15 million units next year from 11 million in 2010. Google however says that it is not trying to battle the iphone directly but is using the Nexus one to promote the the wide-ranging possibilities of its Android operating system. Evidently, Google’s Nexus One phone may not be able to match the Apple iphone in sales. However, Google’s Android operating system is currently fourth by market share amongst Smart phone operating systems. In addition, the Google’s Android operating system is ahead of Microsoft windows 7 and is poised to challenge the iPhone Os, Nokia’s Symbia and RIMS Blackberry. The Android Operating system is gaining in market share because handset manufacturers like HTC and Samsung are showing a preference for the Google’s Android, which is not only free but attracting a fast-growing developer community.
This article was written by Henry Aladiume, the CEO/President of Elnegy, a consumer electronics company based in Houston, Texas. You can get more details by visiting the website http://www.elnegy.com

Yahoo's CEO Predicts Problem For Google

In an interview with the BBC News ,Ms. Carol Bartz, CEO of Yahoo claimed that the company’s competitor -Google will have a problem if it does not diversify its business as search accounts for over 96% of Google’s business, while search accounts for less than half of Yahoo’s busness. Ms Bartz added that Google has to grow a company the size of Yahoo every year to be interesting.

However,it appears that Ms. Bartz comments seem not to recognize Google’s long term growth strategy and seems to discount the superior financial performance of Google over Yahoo in the last three years. The truth is that Google is diversifying and this is evident from the fact that Chrome the Google web browser currently has 6% of Market share.Google has also launched Nexus one phone and the company’s operating systems is used in a lot of mobile phones.

A report in the New York Times two weeks ago shows that Google is competiting in more areas and offers products like Mobile hardware,Mobile OS,Desktop OS and Office Suite which Yahoo does not offer.

Even though under Ms.Bartz ,Yahoo has seen increased profit there is no indication that Yahoo is going to match Google in terms of business growth anytime soon. For example Google’s 2009 key financial indicators show that the company’s Revenue of($23 billion); Profit( $6billion) and Assets ($40 billion) are far higher than that of Yahoo with revenue of($6 billion; Profit($600 million) and Assets ($14 billion). So which company is more likely to be in trouble :Yahoo or Google ?

The E-Reader And Tablet Pc War: Who Wins?

The E-Reader And Tablet Pc War: Who Wins?

When Amazon launched- Kindle its electronic reader device about November 19 2007 it was hailed as a revolutionary device and soon garnered massive amount of sales. Soon after that other competing brands like Samsung’s (Papyrus), Sony’s (Reader), Fujitsu’s (Flepia), and Irex Technology’s (Digital Reader 1000) have since followed and have been competing for market share

However, Apple Inc has since raised the stakes with the launch of the Ipad on January, 27th 2010.The Ipad has been touted to be a potential killer of the Amazon Kindle because of its enhanced features especially the multi -touch screen .Apple Ipad has already received pre-orders of 19,000 units and the company has plans to ship about 5 million Ipads in the first half of 2010.

The Apple Ipad, went on sale today April 3rd ,2010 and has internet features and the 3G platform is provided by AT&T, the 3G version has a price range of between $629-$829. Reports say that for now, Apple is selling IPads that can only connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi. Those models start at $499. Models that also have a cellular data connection will be on sale by the end of the April. The price will be $130 more, with the most expensive at $829.

Interestingly, Microsoft has unveiled it own version of the tablet PC-The courier (a smart book) and it would support Flash a feature which the Apple Ipad does not currently have. However, the Apple Ipad killer may be a German company- Neofonie whose CEO Ankershoffen announced that their Tablet PC brand -Wepad will appear in German Stores before the Apple Ipad.
